4 steps for Feng Shui in Your Bedroom

Feng Shui is all about harmony, and where else in the home is harmony more necessary than in the bedroom?

De-clutter

We’re not just talking about clearing out your make-up drawer and sending a few pairs of shoes to the local charity shop. Good feng shui is also about getting rid of anything that you do not love, or that doesn’t make you happy. Clearing up clutter is also very therapeutic, as the acts of collecting, organizing and disposing of items is symbolic of you lightening the load you carry on yourself.

Get yourself some chi

Chi is the word for good energy from feng shui, and one of the easiest ways to get it is increase the amount and quality of light and air in your bedroom. Air out the bedroom by opening the windows when you wake up, and ensure you can push any curtains back all the way to let the maximum amount of light in possible. Also consider your windows; it’s incredible just how much light dirty or grubby windows can block. Clean your bedroom windows regularly and you’ll reap the rewards.

Find out your lucky direction

Knowing your lucky direction is a key part of feng shui, and the bedroom is one of the most important places to put this into practice. Your bed should be well-made and attractive, like these designs from Bedz R Us, and should be positioned so that your head is facing towards one of your best directions. If you don’t already know your number, also known as your kua number, add together the last two numbers of your birth year. If the number is not a single digit, add together the numbers (so for 10, add together 1 and 0) until you have a single digit. This is your kua number!

For those who have the number, 1,3,4 or 9, East, South, North And South East are you good directions, and if you are a 2, 6, 7 or 8, North East, North West, West And South West are the directions for you. For men, 5 is the same as 2, and for women, 5 is the same as 8.

Know what to avoid

For good feng shui in the bedroom, you need to know what to avoid when it comes to the layout of your bedroom. You should avoid having your bed under a sloped ceiling or any beams. If your bed needs to be underneath a window, make sure you have a headboard, and if your bed must face a door, make sure there is something blocking the end of your bed, like a table or chest of drawers. This is said to stop your positive energy whooshing out of the door while you sleep!
