How to Lose Weight Quickly and Healthily

If you’re anything like me, you have a few pounds to spare. Gaining weight can be a gradual creep, and it’s not until you see yourself in photos or realise you can’t fit your favourite jeans that you realise it’s happened.

Losing weight is also often hard to do. No one wants to give up yummy dinners with friends and family, their daily latte, and spend hours slaving away on the treadmill. Luckily, there are a few ways you can lose weight quickly and healthily:


Change your diet

Notice I’m not saying “cut out everything you like to eat”. Going on a super-strict diet may help you lose the weight fast, but restricting whole food groups can mean you get frustrated and end up binging- ending up yo-yo dieting and feeling worse.

The trick is to slowly make changes which you can implement for the long term. If you usually have a high-carb breakfast, switch it out for one which is high in protein and healthy fats, and you’ll stay fuller for longer. If you have a sweet tooth, cut down on the amount of sweets you have in your house and try to have less sugar in your coffee.

Find exercise you love

The idea of slogging it out on the cross-trainer for an hour makes me want to hurl, but I could go for a decent run for 20-30 minutes. For others, relaxing on the cross-trainer is a good way to get a little exercise and catch up on the news or read a trashy magazine.

It’s important to find a type of exercise you love so that you’ll stick to it and enjoy it. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try Salsa dancing, or you like the idea of taking up a martial art. Whatever it is, commit to working out at least 3 times a week and aim to get your heart rate up.


Let your friends know what youre doing

It can be hard to stick to your health and fitness goals when your friends are constantly asking if you want to come over and eat take-out, go out for ice cream, or visit that amazing new Italian place that just opened up. If you let your friends know that you’re trying to lose weight, they’ll be able to support you, and you won’t feel like you’re being sabotaged. You may even find that one of your friends is aiming to lose weight as well, and you can team up, support each other, exchange recipes, and work out together.
