The best items to splurge on this year

If you’ve decided that making smarter shopping choices is one of your resolutions in 2017, then consider this the best post of splurge-worthy items that you should invest in this year. No longer will you be wasting money on things that either fall out of style or simply fall apart.

Here are the best items to splurge on this year:

A proper bed

If you’re still sleeping on your childhood bed from home, a twin-sized bed from Ikea, or worse, a couch, this is the time to actually get it together and buy a proper bed. We all know that a good night’s sleep is critical if we’re going to function well the next day (especially as we get older), so why are so many of us choosing to sleep on beds that have us restlessly tossing and turning all night?

A decent laptop

If you’re still using an old laptop that runs slower than your great grandma and causes you daily frustration, this is one item that is worth the splurge. After going through a laptop almost yearly, I finally upgraded to a MacBook Air two years ago and I’ve never looked back. Friends have told me that they’ve had their Macs for years, and if you look after them well, you’ll find that they’ll be saving documents and playing Netflix for a long, long time.

A high-end pair of heels

Other than working out, you will need a good pair of black pumps for absolutely everything: internships, interviews, dates, clubbing, meetings, and more. If you end up getting a few pairs that are cheap, uncomfortable and have poor traction, you’ll be cursing yourself as you take a tumble on a slippery step one day (not that this ever happened to me). Suck it up and buy some shoes that make you feel like an actual grown up, and you won’t regret it.

A good pair of glasses

Every single time you squint, you’re damaging both your eyes and your face. If you want to avoid botox later in life, it’s crucial that you find a decent pair of sunglasses so you can both look and feel good. If you really want to look like a badass, consider a good pair of Chanel glasses, which you can wear to work, at home, and whenever you really need to be able to see what you’re doing.

Decent sunscreen

You know that weird neck thing that a lot of older women have? Like their face looks ok but their neck is where they’re showing allll of their sins? Well that’s your destiny if you don’t start using some decent sunscreen. Grab a bottle that’s at least SPF 30 (I like Olay), and while it may take a while to find the perfect type for your skin type, you’ll be thanking yourself in a few years when everyone else is getting lasers and microdermabrasion.
