Borax

Aside from it being used as a cleaning agent for laundry and stain removal, it’s also a great way to get rid of a number of pests in your home. Be careful when handling though because it may be harmful if you swallow it or it gets in your eye.

For an ant problem, you can create a borax-sugar solution and use it as a spray or soak a cotton ball with it and place it in areas from where you know they enter. The sugar will attract them and they will take it back to their colony killing all, including the queen.

If you have fleas, sprinkle it on affected areas and leave it there for 12-48 hours before cleaning it up. Be sure to keep your kids away in case they might ingest it.

And for roaches, make the borax-sugar mix using three parts borax and one part sugar and spread it on areas where they frequently like to enter. They’ll be disintegrated from the inside effectively killing them.

Chalk

This is more of a repellant than it is a pesticide alternative. But if what you need after dealing with the initial infestation is to keep them out so they never make it back in, you can use chalk to discourage them. It’s not really clear why this works, but it seems to do the trick for a lot of people. Draw a line in areas where they tend to enter from and watch them never set foot in your home again.

Rosemary

We die a little inside when we see our fur baby itching uncontrollably because of fleas and all we want to do is to get rid of their unwanted parasites. A great home remedy to rid your pet of fleas is rosemary. They can’t stand the smell of this. Just boil one to two cups of rosemary in water and once it has cooled down, add it to your pet’s bath water so they can smell fresh and be protected from fleas at the same time.

Baking Soda

This is another great solution to get rid of pesky roaches. You just need to mix some sugar into the baking soda to lure them into eating it and leave it where they can easily find it. When ingested, the baking soda will cause a similar reaction in the roaches and kill them before they wander any further into your home.
