Making the Most of The Maldives

Paradise? What do you picture?

For me, it would be blinding white sand, swaying palm trees, sparkling clear, blue sea, and a chilled out vibe.

I think I’ve just described The Maldives perfectly.

This stunningly beautiful series of islands in the Indian Ocean have long been a honeymoon favourite, yet it’s much more than that, and anyone who simply wants to get away from it all, and sample true beauty and yes, that word again, paradise, is more than welcome. The Maldives is also home to one of the most beautiful resorts in the world, the One & Only Reethi Rah.

Despite kicking back and relaxing on the beach, taking in your stunning surroundings, and forgetting anything that even faintly resembles a stress, what can you do on your sunshine break to this blindingly beautiful part of the world?

Diving

Whether you’re a seasoned water-baby, or you’re just about ready to dip your toe, the rich and abundant underwater world around this part of the world begs to be explored. More than 1000 species of fish and 3000 coral reefs call The Maldives area their home, and with great visibility no matter what the month, it’s possible to see colourful fish up to 50 metres away. To take it one step further, why not schedule a night time dive and see everything in a totally different light?

Beach days and watersports

Obviously you’re going to want beach time, it’s a given, but when the sun beats down and you’re ready to cool off, you’ll find plentiful watersports to help you out. Swimming, water polo, surfing, parasailing, kayaking, jet-skiing, the list goes on.

Surfing

Now, The Maldives are well known for the fantastic swells during the months of June to September, which brings with it flocks of surfing enthusiasts. Learn to surf, or hone your existing skills at many different top-class surfing spots, most of which are near to popular resorts.

Spas

Wellness is big business in The Maldives, and it’s no surprise when you look at the surroundings; what is more relaxing than peering out at the blinding blue sea, whilst you receive a massage that rubs away any care you ever had in your brain? Traditional healing methods are used in many different spas, meaning you can experience the authentic Indian Ocean ways, whilst benefiting in your own healing and healthy ways. If you’re on honeymoon, or visiting as a couple, you can have couples massages too.

A visit to Male

Depending on where you’re staying, a visit to the capital, Male, may be possible. Shopping and checking out the architecture and local way of life is a great opportunity to experience the authentic Maldives.

As you can see, nothing about The Maldives is rushed or frenetic, and maybe that’s why it’s so popular. Slow, chilled out, and leaving you feeling totally trouble-free, this is what Indian Ocean life is all about.
