You don’t need me to tell you that there are a lot of smokers in the world. Given the title of this blog post, you are probably one too! We all know about the health risks associated with smoking, but some of us find it hard to kick the habit.
Those of us that do think about giving up smoking will know of the benefits associated with doing so. For example, your breathing will improve, and you cut down your risk of getting cancer. What you may not know is there are some other, more unexpected benefits to giving up smoking! Want to know what they are? Keep reading to find out more!
You develop your personality
One of the things that happen when you quit smoking is you don’t know what to do with yourself! Smoking somehow became part of your personality. Once you give up smoking, you no longer have to hide behind a rolled up piece of paper in your mouth!
That gives you the opportunity to let your real personality flourish. This is good news if you’re someone that is an introvert.
You won’t have to worry about sounding like Marge Simpson
The longer you smoke, the higher the risk of developing an array of medical problems. I’ve already mentioned cancer, but there’s one thing you don’t always hear about: COPD. Short for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, it does bad things to your lungs. It also causes problems with your voice, making you sound like Marge Simpson!
Don’t believe me? Here’s a link to a website that tells you more about COPD and smoking. So, if you’re trying to launch a singing career, smoking is also bad for business!
You stop hating non-smokers
Have you ever noticed how smokers tend to mainly hang around with other smokers? They seldom spend time with those that don’t smoke. Why is that, I hear you ask? Well, smokers assume that non-smokers want to avoid them like the plague.
Yes, it’s no fun hanging around someone that spends their spare time puffing away. Smokers often develop a complex and begin “hating” non-smokers! When you give up the cancer sticks, you’ll find you wish to spend more time with other non-smokers too.
You increase your chances of finding true love
Single? Part of the reason you are without a significant other is down to your smoking. Given a choice, many non-smokers don’t wish to date people that have a 30 a day habit. Believe it or not, when you give up smoking, you increase your love interest options!
You no longer smell like an ashtray
No doubt there was once a time where you thought it was “cool” to smell of cigarette smoke. After a while, you soon realize there is nothing cool about it!
There is also the social stigma to contend with too. Your boss may find it unprofessional if you met with customers smelling like an ashtray! And your friends might not want you to sit in their cars or on their living room couches.
One interesting side-benefit is that your perfume or aftershave costs will drop by a lot. That’s because you won’t need to spray gallons of the stuff to disguise your smoky scent!
So, are these reasons compelling enough for you to quit today?
